Legal
Plain-language terms and privacy notice for disk.ie. Both describe what the service actually does. The specific legal-entity details, jurisdiction and a registered contact address will be added once a person has filed them — they are not invented here.

Terms of service
What disk.ie is
disk.ie is an off-site backup storage service. You create buckets, upload objects through any standard AWS S3 client, and read them back. Quotas and usage are enforced by the account portal.
Your account
Access is via single sign-on through the Netquirk identity provider at my.netquirk.com. disk.ie accounts are created the first time you sign in and are tied to that identity. Sessions last 30 days and are renewed on use. Access keys are issued from the dashboard, are shown once, and may be revoked at any time by their owner.
Acceptable use
- No content that is illegal in the jurisdiction from which you operate.
- No use that interferes with the operation of the service or with other customers' access to their own buckets.
- No attempts to bypass quotas, signature checks, or bucket-level access controls.
- No reverse engineering of the service other than as permitted by applicable law.
Quotas and throttling
Per-account limits cover storage bytes, object count, requests per second, and bytes per second. They are enforced on writes and on reads. When you are within the last 10 % of a rate cap, the service returns 403 SlowDown; when you would exceed a hard cap, it returns 507 Insufficient Storage. Limits are visible in the dashboard.
Data handling
Uploaded objects are encrypted before they are written to disk and surfaced through the S3-compatible endpoint. Object deletion is a soft-delete: a deleted key returns 404 NotFound on subsequent reads. Hard deletion is performed on a schedule after the soft-delete and after you have downloaded anything you wanted to keep.
Liability and warranties
The service is provided "as is" without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Within the limits permitted by law, neither the disk.ie operators nor any of their agents are liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. Where any of the above cannot be excluded, the disk.ie operators' aggregate liability is limited to the amount you have paid for the service in the twelve months preceding the claim.
Service levels
Service-level numbers (response-time targets, uptime targets) are not yet published on this site. No specific commitment is made or implied until those numbers are added.
Changes
Material changes to these terms are announced through the support channels on this site. Continued use after a change takes effect indicates acceptance of the new terms.
Privacy notice
In plain English
disk.ie is a storage service. It does not run a marketing audience tracker, does not embed third-party analytics, and does not embed any third-party script beyond the resources hosted on disk.ie and the S3 endpoint at s3.disk.ie.
What disk.ie collects from you
- Identity: your sign-in identity and email, supplied by the identity provider at
my.netquirk.com. disk.ie does not see the password. - Session cookie: a 30-day signed cookie used to authenticate browser calls.
- Account data: bucket names, access-key labels and scopes, quotas (bytes, objects, requests per second, bytes per second), per-bucket usage rollups, and an append-only audit log of mutating actions.
- Server logs: web-server access logs (path, status, time) for the dashboard and the S3 endpoint.
What disk.ie stores on your behalf
- Buckets and objects you upload through S3.
- Soft-deleted keys, which return
404 NotFoundon subsequent reads.
What disk.ie does not collect
- Browser fingerprints, third-party advertising identifiers, or cross-site tracking data.
- Page-analytics events. The static site is served with no per-visitor instrumentation; access logs exist but are not used for audience measurement.
- Email address — the dashboard stores the email that the identity provider supplies, but disk.ie never asks you to type one into this site.
Who can see what
The customer scope is enforced at the API. Customers cannot see each other's buckets or keys. Internal service-to-service requests are signed; admin endpoints are guarded by a separate token whose access is audited.
Sub-processors
The identity provider at my.netquirk.com is the only sub-processor outside the disk.ie infrastructure that sees identity-bearing data. Object storage is run on the same disk.ie infrastructure that owns the buckets; no copy leaves the immediate storage tier for any other purpose.
Your choices
- Delete your account: revoke every access key and soft-delete every bucket from the dashboard, then contact support to hard-delete the account record.
- Export your data: list and download every key in every bucket with the AWS CLI against
https://s3.disk.ie. - Sign out from the dashboard at any time.
Retention
Account records and audit logs are kept for as long as the account is active and for the minimum period needed to comply with audit and tax obligations afterwards. Server logs are retained on a rolling window of a few weeks.
Document history
- v2 (current) — Redesign of disk.ie to the Netquirk site standard (vmgenie.com v2 look). Terms and privacy text revised to drop invented prices, addresses and entity claims; the legal page no longer claims a company that may not exist.
- v1 — Earlier public-site text, superseded.
